At Nestlings Forest School, we can provide your setting with a variety of exciting, fun and engaging sessions aimed at encouraging children and young people of all ages to become inspired and enthused by what nature can do.
Our sessions are run by highly experienced teachers who have a substantial amount of knowledge and practice in the field of ALN and SEN. Our aim is to help and coach children and young people in the skills they need to develop their confidence, resilience, stickability and emotional well-being. We welcome children of all ages, our youngest Nestling is only 4 weeks old.
As a team we have adopted an approach that encourages all participants to develop a positive relationship with the outdoor, natural world. Our nurturing environments focus on the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development of our participants, while fundamentally promoting their curiosity and understanding of their world.
Through our program of outdoor learning, which is designed to deliver a rich diet of stimuli to develop Perceptual Motor Development in a natural environment, participants are stimulated in a way that is softy fascinating without being completely distracting (Stenfors, et al 2019).
AtNestlings Forest School we support all participants in gaining more independence, self-confidence, resilience and to develop their social communication skills.
Participants of all ages, abilities and backgrounds can benefit from the wide range of activities that are provided when attendingNestlings Forest School. Being in a non-traditional setting with participant-led learning, can be extremely beneficial for participants requiring interventions.
Forest Schools have also been found to be beneficial to children and young people with ALN and SEN, particularly for individuals with an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), challenging behaviour, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Developmental Coordination Delay (DCD).
Our sessions are based in low sensory environments that promote Attention Restoration and provide multi-sensory experiences that can help improve concentration and motivation to learn (Ackerman, 2021: Kaplan, 1995).
Finally, our sessions can be run at one of our wonderful local woodland sites (see below locations) or alternatively, we can visit you and run your session within your school grounds.
